General Information and Individual Membership Councillor responsibilities

About ESGE
The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) is dedicated to the advance of skilled endoscopic practice through workshops, publication of guidelines, and research. It represents national societies of endoscopy in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa. As of 2016, two ESGE Individual Members are elected by ESGE Individual Members to serve on the ESGE Governing Board for a term of two years.

Eligibility for election on the Governing Board
ESGE Individual Members may put themselves forward for nomination. Only members who have paid their annual dues may be considered. Those with trainee status are not eligible to become ESGE Individual Membership councillors.

Role of the Individual Member on the Governing Board
As a voting member of the ESGE Governing Board, the Individual Members councillor is involved in ESGE’s decision making process.

ESGE is looking for dedicated individuals with proven commitment to ESGE activities. It is important to be capable and willing to spend a substantial amount of time for this position and to be actively committed within board by participating in the committees and working groups.

He/she is required to attend three ESGE Governing Board meetings (virtual or face to face) per year, and  participate in regular web-based calls. Attendance is also required at the annual ESGE General Assembly.

Term of office
The term for this position begins at the ESGE General Assembly at ESGE Days and ends after two years, terminating at the ESGE General Assembly. Should the Individual Membership councillor be re-elected, his/her term may be extended for a maximum of a further two years.

§14 Election and Term of Office of the Governing Board

Individual Membership (IM) councillors election:

  • Active IM membership at the opening of the voting process is a prerequisite to have voting rights.
  • IMs only have one vote also when two IM councilor positions are open.
  • To support a male/female balance of candidatures, 2 lists of candidates – one female, one male will be supplied. The candidate with the highest score on each list will be elected.
  • IM election process: Election takes place as online voting. Call for nominations beginning on December 18, 2024, closing January 24. 2025. Voting opens from February 5 until February 21, 2025.
